Sweet Home Alabama

The University of Alabama has hired John Freeman to be their new head football coach. They announced it at a press conference this morning in Tuscaloosa at 9:00 am Central Time. University of Alabama Athletic Director Mal Moore introduced Freeman at the conference stating, "We chose Freeman because of his enthusiasm for the game, ability to recruit, and his winning attitude."

Following the great airplane crash of 2009 which was carrying many coaches to the NCAA football coaches conference in Boise, ID, there were many jobs opening up including Florida, LSU, Ohio St, USC, Alabama, and many others. Freeman was offered jobs at Oregon, Penn St (Joepa died naturally), and Virginia Tech, but chose Alabama because he said, "Who would not want to coach for Alabama? This is the most tradition rich school in the country in my mind."

Freeman concluded the press conference by giving a "Roll Tide!" Freeman's defensive coordinator will be John Tenuta who is leaving his job at Notre Dame. He has yet to name an offensive coordinator but stated he wants a coordinator who runs many different formations and can utilize Star Jackson, who he has already named the starter.
